In Sight, Out of Mind: Uncovering Stories from the Streets

At the TEDxPrincetonU conference in 2018, I spoke about the importance of humanizing homelessness by talking to people on the streets, learning their stories, and integrating them into our communities.

Take a moment to reflect on immense power you have – as an individual – to empower those who are so often overlooked in our society. Of course, while any action at all can go a long way, it’s true: if all of us leave and only one person acts, not much change will happen.

But imagine the power of a whole auditorium full of people who commit to connecting with people on the streets. Imagine a whole school full of people who dedicate themselves to humanizing the people they walk past every day. Imagine a whole world full of people who recognize that the suffering of one person is the suffering of all of us.
